Education:

In addition to providing course material necessary to provide members with educational credentials known as American Gem Society titles and designations, the Society offers a variety of continuing education to professionals in the jewelry industry and individuals with an interest in gemology and appraising.

In 2005, the American Gem Society introduced the Graduate Sales Associate course.  It is one of the most comprehensive sales associate training programs available in the jewelry industry. Course participants receive information on product knowledge, sales techniques, and success strategies. The seven-chapter home-study course contains pertinent facts on diamonds, colored stones, pearls, metals, watches, and period jewelry, along with information about the jewelry industry and the importance of good customer service and professionalism. Upon successful completion of a proctored final exam, the associate is awarded a Graduate Sales Associate Certificate from the Jewelers Education Foundation of the American Gem Society.

At the campus in Las Vegas, the American Gem Society hosts a schedule of gemological classes by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) that are prerequisites for membership and titles from the American Gem Society. GIA Lab classes offered at our Las Vegas campus include: Diamond Grading, Gem Identification, and Colored Stone Grading.

We also offer a quick and effective Colorvision Screening designed to evaluate color proficiency and identify any deficiencies.  Colorvision screening is available to members and non-members alike throughout the year in a variety of locations - Click here for the AGS Calendar.

The Advanced Personal Property Appraisal course is offered through the Jewelers Education Foundation of the American Gem Society.  Not limited to jewelry appraising, it is especially useful if you are interested in the field of personal property appraising. This three-part home-study course covers appraisal theory and the legal guidelines of professional appraising.

If you are interested in these or any other American Gem Society educational programs, and for a full schedule of classes and tuition, please submit your information below or email agseducation@ags.org for questions and registration information.
